School Chess Clubs

Currently Mark David Wright coaches three chess clubs. Chess club teaches chess knowledge and strategy while emphasizing respect and good sportsmanship.
Avery Elementary School in Hilliard , Ohio has approximately 30 members. The chess club meets weekly for 1 hour. After a twenty minute power point lesson, the chess club members play each other or their chess coach. At the end of every eight week session, all chess club members compete in a school chess tournament. Trophies are awarded. Many chess players also compete in local or state chess tournaments. All students who attend Avery Elementary in Hilliard are welcome to become members of the Avery Chess Club.
Mark David Wright also coaches a scholastic chess club in Powell , Ohio . The chess club meets at the City of Powell Municipal Building on Tuesdays for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Since this club has beginners and intermediate players, the chess lessons are appropriate for both levels. The chess club players are competitive and many compete in local, state and national chess competitions. New players that live in Powell are welcome to join the chess club 4 kids.
The third chess club that Mark David Wright teaches is Hanby Elementary in Westerville, OH. This club meets for one hour after school on Mondays. There are approximately 30 students in the club. This young club took first place in the Columbus Alternative High School Chess Tournament in November of 2007. Anyone who attends Hanby Elementary is welcome to join the chess club. Beginning and Intermediate players are welcome.
